Fast Tactical Imagery IIFact SheetThe Fast Tactical Imagery II (FTI II) is a follow on program to the Navy’s successful F-14 Tomcat FTI program. The FTI II was developed and released for the Navy’s F/A-18 Hornet to provide image capture, compression, transmission, reception and display in the cockpit. It uses a single module referred to as PRISM (Photo Reconnaissance Intelligence Strike Module). In a reconnaissance scenario the FTI II provides the commander with time critical strike information that was previously unavailable. Specifically, the commander is able to view the battle space at extended ranges thru still frame images provided immediately by his aircrews. Bomb Damage Assessment (BDA) images can also be transmitted immediately after the strike to the commander or as target handoff to other combat aircraft. New targets of opportunity can be transmitted to aircraft on station for an immediate strike on the target.A removable Compact Flash card provides a capability to upload and download target images before and after the mission. Small text messages may also be attached and transmitted with the image or as stand alone text files and then displayed on the cockpit display. The FTI II also has full serial control of the HI 8 mm Video Tape Recorder for record, rewind, playback and capture of recorded video. For the F/A-18 Hornet, an internal Scan Converter Module automatically detects and down scans 875 line FLIR and 675 line radar video to standard 525 line for direct HI 8 mm recording and image capture. The FTI II is compatible with all F-14’s, all Navy carriers, portable FTI laptops, Army Special Forces LVRS, Navy P-3 AIP, UK Jaguar and Special Forces, Army AH-64 and OH-58D with AVRIT, and over 1000 fielded ICE software platforms. |
